We are looking for a qualified, self-motivated, proactive electrician who would like to develop a career in the TV industry by joining our award winning production, Emmerdale as a Trainee Production Electrician.


This role entails…


Upon the successful completion of an initial 3 month training period, you will continue to develop  the skills to work as a Production Electrician, you will be assigned to one of our production lighting crews in order to work with us over several months on a fixed-term contract.   You will be required to work on location and in studio, as required by production. This role will involve the manual handling of heavy objects and equipment on a daily basis and during inclement weather on location.  You will need to be flexible with regards to working hours and a driving licence is essential.


Some Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on Emmerdale in a training capacity, for a short period and gain experience and skills as an Emmerdale production electrician. 
  • Work on location and in studio to cover our electrical needs within the sets. 
  • Provision and operation of lighting equipment.
  • Working to the needs of the Lighting Director and Chargehand.
  • Working in a safe and professional manner with full consideration for the Health and Safety of self and others.
  • Working with different power supplies including 3 phase and generators, plus aspects of power connection.
  • Working at height including, mobile elevated working platforms, scaffolds and ladders.
  • Occasional driving of vans plus LGVs subject to appropriate licences being held.  An LGV licence is preferred but we will offer this training, if required,  to the right candidate as driving Generators is a requirement of this role.
  • Following safe systems of work.


To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Demonstrable interest in TV production or experience of working as an electrician in a  large factory or studio complexes and/or on events.
  • You must be a qualified electrician and hold the qualifications listed below. 
  • Qualified to City and Guilds 2330 Certificate in Electro-technical Technology Level 3 and City and Guilds 2381 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation, (BS 7671 and BS7909) or NVQ / AM2 Certificate.
  • 18th Edition : IET Regulations.
  • Good proven experience of working on your own and as part of a team
  • You will be self-motivated with good planning and organisational skills. 
  • Strong IT skills
  • Good communicator with the ability to interact successfully with a variety of people.
  • This role will include a lot of standing, walking and lifting of heavy lighting equipment on a daily basis. 
  • Good knowledge of health and safety. 
  • This role will occasionally include driving responsibilities therefore a driving licence is essential. 
  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised or as part of a team. 
  • Willingness to learn including keeping abreast of new technology, equipment and production lighting techniques.


The Key role criteria is as follows:

  • To be able to give instruction and make quick decisions in a professional manner, often to tight deadlines.
  • Regard to own safety and safety of others, preferably qualified to IOSH level.
  • Knowledge of new equipment and production lighting techniques.
  • Proactive approach to personal development.
  • A systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to take a variety of approaches when dealing with issues and problems.
