The ITV Commercial team is responsible for bringing in the £1.9bn worth of advertising that helps fund ITV's programming. However, the Commercial team isn’t just about advertising sales. With an ever-changing marketplace, a multitude of new platforms and brands facing into a highly complex marketing landscape, it has never been a more exciting time to join the UKs biggest commercial broadcaster.


We are looking for a Senior Strategist to join our collaborative team. 


ITV’s Client Strategy Team…

ITV commercial works with over 1500 advertisers to help them create campaigns that cut through competitive clutter, harness popular culture, build credibility, drive fame for their brands and lead to transformational results for their businesses. The recently established client strategy team sits within the ITV Commercial division and has an overall remit to help ITV build closer and more strategic relationships with its advertisers.  This means we work closely with the broader commercial team to answer advertiser briefs, specifically, ensuring ideas are rooted in insight, aligned with a client's brand strategy and creative platform, and are properly measurable and effective.


We also work to foster long term relationships with clients - drawing on ITV knowledge, expertise and resources to help answer questions on marketing issues as diverse as: the power of TV, the interplay between channels, comms planning, brand positioning, audience targeting, measurement, effectiveness and best practice. 


As a key strategic partner, you will provide the client with unrivalled insight into their category, the ITV consumer, their buying patterns, preferences, attitude to the client’s brand. You’ll build deeper, longer strategic relationships with advertisers that position ITV as a business partner to our clients, fostering deeper, more creative and more commercially rewarding partnerships with advertisers.


Key Responsibilities...

A key aspect of the role is drawing on specialist internal teams (e.g. our cultural strategy unit, programme experts and data science/analytics teams) to make the most of ITV's insight into its audiences and programmes and use this to inspire effective and creative campaigns.


It's a busy, demanding but highly stimulating role. In any given week you could be involved in campaigns for some of the nation's biggest advertisers like BT or Halifax, you could be helping to persuade some of the UK's newest advertisers to trial TV as part of their marketing mix, you could be involved in thinking about how to position Love Island or Corrie to advertisers, or you could be writing a think piece about an audience or a category. 


The right candidate should embrace the opportunity to use our variety of creative canvases and technologies to engage communities of people with richly crafted storytelling and experiences.


We would also like someone who has a natural interest in mainstream culture and society. Someone who consistently layers in cultural insights to their creative strategy, and whose experience in generating insight means they are happy taking a lead on category / audience / cultural led thinkpieces. 



To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

Minimum role criteria:


  • Extensive background in strategy/planning and sound experience in applying or developing research approaches
  • Excellent working knowledge of creative & media effectiveness, comms planning & creative processes
  • Strong insight & data /research skills - ideally with a hands on awareness of working with semiotics and/or qual techniques
  • Comfortable ‘in the grey’ - we won’t always get the clearest briefs, we won’t always have time to approach something in a purist way – you will need to be agile, commercial and adaptable
