With the rapid shift in industry trends, from VOD streaming to programmatic AI and ever-changing consumer tastes, accelerating the demand for high-quality, high-volume content delivery, at scale, we are looking to leverage our long-standing reputation as the largest commercial TV network in the UK in order to create a technology-first media platform that caters to an increasingly diverse worldwide audience. 


What you’ll be doing: 

As a Front End Engineer you will join the On Demand department, focussing on highly responsive, mobile-first front-end solutions, utilising the React Framework, for the Video-On-Demand, Catch-Up and New Original Content markets in the UK. 

These platforms serve millions of hours of content to 40m customers, across connected TV, Mobile, tablet and Desktop. You will work closely with colleagues from all disciplines, across cross-functional product teams, to meet our increasing scaling demands and ensure our diverse platforms are competitive in an ever-expanding market.


Some of the key responsibilities are as follows:

● Working with Product Managers and Agile Delivery Managers to translate requirements and product features into manageable components/tasks, giving estimates, suggest solutions and identifying possible risks 

● Working with test and operations teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the life cycle

● Contributing towards best practice for application development; specifying, designing and implementing reusable components that are efficient, scalable and well abstracted

● Writing, reviewing and taking responsibility for technical documentation that assists teams in picking up domain experience. 

● Keeping abreast of new and existing technologies and be able to apply these to a variety of projects as applicable. 

● Being active in developer communities inside and outside of ITV, contributing to discussions and external projects, attend conferences and build a network of like-minded individuals. 


To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills (minimum role criteria):

  • Commercial experience in JavaScript development and software engineering principles

  • Experience working with React JS Experience delivering HTML5 and CSS3 code across a broad array of web and mobile products, with knowledge and awareness of performance, accessibility and SEO considerations 

  • Experience building responsive, mobile-first applications

  • Experience building unit and functional tests, ideally using test-driven techniques

  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies and principles 

  • Candidates with Computer Science-related degrees, Bootcamp graduates or candidates with relevant Front-End development work experience will all be considered

Desirable skills: 

  • Previous experience using GitHub, Jenkins, Docker and/or AWS 

  • Familiarity with modern React features such as Hooks and Context

  • Previous experience using modern frontend tooling, for example:Webpack, NPM, Babel, esLint

  • Familiarity with developing for embedded devices (Connected TVs, Set Top Boxes etc)
