Business Area Overview:
Sitting within the heart of our Media and Entertainment division, Audiences is the home of viewer insights at ITV, and the single source of truth for content performance across our broadcast and on-demand businesses. Audience’s Strategy and Performance team is responsible for all performance reporting and analytics relating to ITV’s programmes. With stakeholders across the board, including commissioning, scheduling, marketing, commercial, strategy, international, finance and investor relations, our objective is to provide clients with data-driven insights that make a difference and drive value, now and in the future.

This role entails…
We are looking for two high-performing Audiences Data Analysts (Content & Performance) with an in-depth working knowledge of data and analytics and a passion for TV. These two roles will be pivotal in advancing the field of TV analysis at ITV and transforming Audiences’ internal processes for a cloud-based future.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, as Audiences Data Analysts (Content & Performance), you will be fully embedded within our data roadmap. You will work with engineers and stakeholders alike to identify value-projects and provide analytics solutions, insight and analysis to the Media & Entertainment division. As part of the Audiences team, you will work alongside content insight specialists to help marry quantitative and qualitative research disciplines through KPI automation, strategic analysis, data visualisation and data storytelling. Working on content optimisation strategies covering both commissioning and distribution, you will also have the chance to help shape the future of ITV’s programming.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Supporting the Audience team’s Digital Transformation by providing analytics solutions that improve ways of working, skills, and access to data relating to content and viewing
  • Working with engineering to ingest all 3rd party Audiences’ data sets as well as any 1st party data required to deliver our content measurement and optimisation strategies
  • Developing data pipelines relating to BARB and ITV Hub data, including the creation of content windows and joining 1st and 3rd party data sets (i.e. Hub and BARB)
  • Working with colleagues across Audiences to deliver best-in-class measurement and metrics across all ITV platforms and data-sets
  • Responsibility for developing of dashboards and interactive tools relating to ITV’s viewing performance, working with teams across the department to ensure a high standard of visual presentation and a consistent theme across all of the Audiences team’s output
  • Developing new forms of analysis to help ITV’s Content business unit best manage distribution strategies between Broadcast and On Demand
  • Supporting and developing the reporting and analysis of the M&E KPIs where required
  • Act as a consultant on data and data sources, explaining methodologies and concepts in an easy to understand way for data literate colleagues and stakeholders less comfortable with data
  • Providing content performance analysis; supporting production, sales, commissioning and acquisition to optimise ITV’s content strategy


To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills:

Minimum Role Criteria:

  • A love and knowledge of, and interest in, television and TV programmes. You will require a good understanding of the TV market: both the broader industry but also programmes – and what makes good TV (whether linear or VoD)
  • Experience working in cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS or Azure
  • A good understanding of TV measurement across both 1st party VOD data and 3rd party measurement such as BARB
  • Extensive experience analysing large datasets using complex SQL queries
  • Use of ETL products such as Matillion to manage and automate data pipelines 
  • A background in data visualisation and dashboard development using tools such as Tableau, Data Studio or Looker
  • Experience in training and upskilling colleagues in SQL and data visualisation
  • Genuine enthusiasm to learn new skills and evolve the field of TV content analysis
  • An open, collaborative approach to working with colleagues from different disciplines, sharing knowledge, insight and best practice
  • Brilliant communication skills (verbal, written and presentational) – the ability to present and explain complex information in simple terms for non-specialists
  • Close attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy

The Key role criteria is as follows:

  • Exposure to BARB session-level panelist data would be desirable
  • Experience forecasting performance using multiple data sets would be desirable
  • Exposure to SVOD panelist data such as SoDA or TRP Codex would be desirable
  • Python/R and other statistical programming language experience would be desirable
  • An working knowledge of statistics concepts (e.g., propensity modelling, hypothesis testing, clustering, regression analysis) would be desirable
